About Us

mewithtonkaWe are dedicated to producing outstanding American Fuzzy Lops exclusively in Northern California. Our barn is solely dedicated to this wonderful breed. As many say, "once you go fuzzy lop, you don't go back!" Their sweet enduring personalities is what drew us to the breed and I could never imagine any other breed to be "my heart breed". Our lines are based off some of the best in the Nation. Quality is what we were after when first starting our herd, and I have accepted no less. Our lines go back to some of the top bloodlines in the World, including many National Specialty winning, ARBA Convention winning, and All-Breed Best In Show winning pedigrees. Lines have been added for their strengths in certain areas of fuzzy lop standard. We are very proud of the rabbits that stem behind what makes up the Starlite fuzzies today. Structure, Temperament, Personality, Health, and Type are what makes up the goals we strive for. We want an American Fuzzy lop with excellent structure- good bone, straight legs, nice angles, solid body, and superior head. One thing I am most proud of with my rabbits is that they are total cuddle bugs! Everyone knows about the wonderful temperaments they have. I don't keep biters in my barn. All breeders need to remember that temperament is hereditary, not just environmental. I love a rabbit with a great personality. A rabbit that will run to you in the morning for feeding time, and come when you call him from being out in the backyard. These fuzzies can be a fireside companion on a cold night or a friend to walk on a leash out in the front yard. Health is a top priority here. We do not keep rabbits with weak immune systems in the herd. No rabbits showing signs of snuffles or respiratory illnesses are kept in the herd. We do not breed rabbits with any hereditary disqualifications such as malocclusion and split genetalia.

mewithvioletI'm 22 years old, and have been raising rabbits since 1998. I always had rabbits as a child, so when I heard that there were purebred rabbits, I knew I had to have one! I got involved in 4-H and started showing and breeding Mini Rex. I, as well as many 4-H'ers instantly fell in love with their soft plush fur. Through 4-H, I learned about ARBA. I started attending shows. At first just to watch, but then to start showing my own animals. I have owned several purebred breeds through my time owning rabbits. I show dogs in American Kennel Club events all over the West Coast, and have been doing so for many years. I really think that this has helped me tremendously with my knowledge on structure, movement, type, and condition. This has carried over to the rabbits, and I have been learning how to pick that future winner!

Last of all I will let you know what I prioritize when it comes to the "looks" of my line of fuzzies. I have carefully selected my pedigrees and breedings compaired to what breeders lineage I absolutely adore and would love to have my "product" look like in the future. I always believe to buy the best stock that you can afford when you start out in breeding rabbits. It is a common phrase that "you get what you pay for" and I do think that in many cases that is true with show rabbits. That's not to say that you cannot spend little money and get a nice rabbit- you just need to find the generous breeders. Many people have bought a "$20 show rabbit" to have the rabbit go on and win a Best In Show. But there are many who spend $150 on a rabbit and barely get a Grand Championship on it. You need to spend many hours researching pedigrees, rabbitries, lines of top producing rabbits, genetics, and of course, the breed. I love heads. I mean, I LOVE heads on Fuzzies. I love a "chipmunk-cheek" plush head (that still stays within the Standard, of course). I love nice big heads. I am also big on "body". I like a nice solid structured body that you can run your hand down and not be poked by protruding body parts. I also like a nice decent amount of bone on fuzzies, and I also love those colors not commonly seen on a really nice typey animal. Thank you for visiting our site. Please feel free to e-mail us if you havemany questions on our rabbitry, or our rabbits, or even if you want to just chat rabbits! We are always up for that!

See you at the shows!
